The Total Phase USB Power Delivery Analyzer is a small adapter for recording the Power Delivery protocol traffic on the USB Type-C connector. It connects in-line between two Type-C products, and passively captures all communication between them, on both the CC1 and CC2 signals. While connected, it does not disturb any USB 3.1 Gen 2 or USB 2.0 signals, enabling capture of PD negotiation for power, USB data roles, and DisplayPort, or other Type-C Alternate Modes.

We worked closely with Google to bring this Chromium project design (code name "Twinkie") to market. The USB Power Delivery Analyzer is manufactured in our own US-based, ISO9001 certified facility. The Total Phase USB Power Delivery Analyzer goes beyond the original Twinkie design, offering improved firmware for use with our Data Center Software.

Data Center Software brings simultaneous capture and true real-time display and decoding of captured data. It runs on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.

The Total Phase Advanced Cable Tester - Level 1 is the quickest and most convenient way to test USB Type-C cables. It provides thorough continuity testing, DC resistance measurement for safe operation/reliability, and E-Marker verification. Rapid spot-checking of cables, easy-to-understand reports, and 100% test coverage are now available to casual, laboratory, and production environments at a fraction of the price, setup time, and labor versus any alternate solutions.

The USB Type-C cable is the most technically advanced cable available. High voltage and current, coupled with 10 Gbps data rates and numerous wires drive ubiquity and, with it, complexity. Test and validation of cables has always been essential, but with the added risk of fire increasing liability, complete testing of these new cables is more critical than ever.

The Advanced Cable Tester enables this essential testing, without expensive scopes, custom fixtures, and highly trained personnel, saving hundreds of thousands of dollars.


Test Coverage 
  • Comprehensive cable IR drop for VBUS & GND based on DC resistance measurement
  • DC resistance of each individual power pin — 16 measurements for Type-C
  • Continuity checking of all pins/wires for opens/shorts
  • For Electrically Marked Cable Assemblies ("EMCAs") E-Marker operation and correctness is compared to measured cable characteristics
  • All parameters have defaults to prove spec compliance, and can be overridden for more strict requirements
